Scoot Award Chart: Unbeatable KrisFlyer Sweet Spots Under 5 Hours from Singapore
Is redeeming KrisFlyer miles on Scoot a mistake? We found a 13,000-mile sweet spot to China worth 4 cents per mile. And this is how we uncovered more gems!
While planning a short, spontaneous getaway for the upcoming Deepavali holiday, we stumbled upon the stunning landscapes of Yangshuo, Guilin and the gateway airport is Nanning. What caught our attention was the cost - a round-trip Scoot Saver award was only 13,000 KrisFlyer miles!
This incredible find prompting a deep dive into the new Scoot KrisFlyer award chart. Are there hidden gems in Scoot’s new award chart? We decided to crunch the numbers to find unbeatable KrisFlyer sweet spots on short-haul flights, focusing on destinations under 5 hours from Singapore.
In this guide, we will show you exactly how to determine if a Scoot redemption is a good deal. All prices shown are in SGD.

What You Must Know Before Redeeming KrisFlyer Miles on Scoot
The full details of the Scoot KrisFlyer award chart, including all destination zones and the online redemption process, are available on the Scoot miles redemption page. We highlight here the important things you need to be aware of:
Award Bookings Are Final: Scoot award tickets are strictly non-cancellable and non-refundable. The only exceptions are for a) documented medical reasons, b) the death of a passenger or an immediate family member, c) a major schedule change initiated by the airline (a delay of 2 hours or more).
Book for Yourself and Your Nominees: You can only redeem miles for yourself and your 5 registered KrisFlyer redemption nominees. Plan ahead if you intend to book for family or friends who are not yet on your list.
Date Changes are Costly, Route Changes Impossible: You cannot change your destination once booked. Date changes are permitted but will incur service fees plus any difference in miles required. Importantly, if the new date requires fewer miles, you will not get a refund on the difference.
No Vouchers or Promo Codes: You cannot use any Scoot vouchers or promo codes to offset the cost of an award ticket. This includes the valuable 20% discount Scoot voucher from the KrisFlyer Milestone Rewards program.
Watch for Payment Fees: A payment processing fee of up to 2.8% will be added to the cash portion (taxes and fees) of your award ticket. You can avoid this by choosing 0% fee options like PayNow or Google Pay.

Our Approach for Scoot Award Sweet Spot Analysis
While we have a detailed post on how we value a KrisFlyer mile at 1.38¢, finding sweet spots on Scoot requires some boundaries. To ensure our comparisons are realistic for the average traveller, here is the framework we used for this analysis, including the limitations you should keep in mind.
Focusing on Short-Haul Destinations: Scoot is a budget airline, and the in-flight experience is different from a full-service carrier like Singapore Airlines. For this reason, we are focusing our analysis on short-haul flights under 5 hours. For any longer journeys, we feel the added comfort of a full-service airline is worth it.
Comparing Saver Awards Only: Our analysis centers on Saver awards. Scoot allows redemptions for Basic and Value fares. For a short getaway, a 10kg carry-on (Basic) is often enough. Or you can go for Value to include a 20kg checked bag.
Capturing Dynamic Prices: Cash ticket prices fluctuate wildly. To account for this, we check Scoot prices for two distinct datapoints. First, a last-minute trip during Deepavali (20 Oct 2025) long weekend to reflect spontaneous travel. Second, a trip planned in advance (eg. July 2026) to capture potential low-season pricing. We noticed that not all flight schedules were available this far out.
Picking Traveller-Friendly Timings: For popular routes with multiple flights daily, like Hong Kong (HKG) or Bangkok (BKK), the timing matters. We chose flight schedules that maximize your time on the ground. This means picking flights that arrive at your destination before 5 PM local time and depart for Singapore after 6 PM, giving us the most out of our trip.
What Value per Mile is a Worthwhile Scoot redemption?
It is easier to determine sweet spots for SQ awards because we can compare them to other airline FFP awards. However, we are not aware of any alternatives to Scoot awards to compare with.
We chase miles for aspiration travels and to get damn good value for business class seats. So much so that we are willing to buy miles at 1.38¢ to achieve this, and redeem tickets when VPM is above 1.64¢. Hence, the VPM for the Scoot award must be above 1.64¢, else it is not worth using Krisflyer miles to redeem. To refresh Value per Mile (VPM):
Value per Mile = (Ticket Price - Fees & Taxes) ÷ Miles Required
Essentially, calculating the VPM tells us how much value we get from 1 Krisflyer mile.
Sweet Spots for Scoot “Monopoly” Routes?
We consider a route a “monopoly” when Scoot is the only airline offering a direct flight from Singapore, like the one to Nanning. With no other carriers competing on the same direct route, cash prices tend to be higher. This consistently results in a redemption value of over 2 cents per mile, making them reliable sweet spots.
For the purpose of sharing some datapoints, let’s introduce two travellers: Spontaneous Sam, who decides to book a trip during the peak Deepavali long weekend, and Planner Jay, who books a trip far in advance.

It is not only Yogyakarta and Guangzhou that has VPM of over 4¢. Spontaneous Sam can also get 4¢ for places like Chennai (MAA), Kuching (KCH), and Penang (PEN). This suggests that higher Advantage awards could give good value.
We did find 2 destinations within 5 hours where Sam gets poor VPM:
Bali (DPS) - 1.47¢
Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) - 1.16¢
Jay is not as lucky as Sam. Many destinations’ VPM are less than 1.64¢, with Haikou having the lowest at 1.02¢. You can already use 100 KrisFlyer miles to offset $1 from SIA and Scoot flights - an effective VPM of 1¢! This suggests that we should definitely check the VPM if we are planning our trip further ahead.
⚠️ Terrible value alert. If Sam redeems SIN-TSN-SIN, the VPM is 0.99¢!
Key Observations from Our Scoot Award Chart Analysis
Clear Expiring Miles: With coming changes to SQ Award Charts, we will need a minimum of 5,600 miles (after considering Spontaneous Escape 30% off) to redeem a flight. Whereas Scoot Saver awards can go as low as 1,500 miles one way. This creates good value to clear expiring or orphaned miles.
Similar VPM for Scoot Basic and Value: The fees difference between Basic and Value fares are for the extra 20kg check-in allowance. So you only need to compare Basic or Value fares to determine VPM.
"Monopoly" Routes are Often Sweet Spots: For destinations where Scoot is the most-favoured airline offering direct flights (like Nanning), cash prices tend to be higher due to lack of competition. Strangely, the VPM are over 2 cents, making them reliable sweet spots (for now?).
Some Flights Only Have Advantage Awards: This happens when searching for dates far in the future, where only Advantage awards are available. We are not sure if Saver awards will be released closer to the date.
Spontaneous Flights Cost Much Much More: Scoot’s ticket prices increases dramatically for popular flights and timings. It is almost certain that getting a Saver award, if available, gives VPM of over 3 cents.
Check Other Airlines Prices: On routes with many daily flights from SQ (like Bali or Hong Kong), always check the cash price for a SQ ticket. It is not uncommon for Jay to find better value for SQ economy class or even cheaper price than Scoot Value.
Scoot Sweet Spot Test: Your 3-Step Check for Scoot Redemptions
Because of Scoot's dynamic pricing swings, a “sweet spot” is dependent on your preferred specific flight on a specific day. How do you determine to pay cash or use miles for your Scoot ticket? You run this simple test every time. This is the exact process to determine if a redemption is a good deal or one you should skip.
Step 1: Find the Award Cost
Log in to your Scoot account and search for your flight using the "Redeem Flights" option. Find an available flight that suits your schedule. This first step establishes the baseline cost for your potential award redemption. You need to note down 2 numbers - the total miles required for a Saver award (Basic or Value) and the cash amount for fees & taxes.
Step 2: Find the Equivalent Cash Price
Next, perform the exact same flight search on the Scoot website, but this time as a regular booking. We want to know the total cash price for the same flight schedule and type. The ensures an apple-to-apple comparison for the actual VPM.
Step 3: Calculate the Value to Find the Sweet Spot
This final step is how you confirm if the redemption is worth it. Calculate the value per mile (VPM) with a simple formula:
Value per Mile = (Ticket Price - Fees & Taxes) ÷ Miles Required
Any VPM above 1.64¢ represents good value and qualifies as a sweet spot for a Scoot redemption. We may even want to set a higher bar of 2.5¢, that’s when we know we have found an excellent deal.
Bonus Tip: The Final Value Check for Well-Served Routes
Before you click “Book” for well-served routes, do one last search for the same dates on Singapore Airlines. This final check ensures you're not just finding a good miles deal, but the best overall travel deal. On competitive routes, an all-inclusive SQ ticket might offer superior value and comfort for a similar price to a Scoot fare with add-ons.
TLDR: Calculate the VPM for the flight you want. A VPM above 1.64¢ is a good deal. A VPM above 2.5¢ is a great deal.
